OPEN STUDIO ACCESS for WET COLLODION & Alternative Photographic Processes - WEST LONDON
Gain time access to my studio and kit depending on your alternative photography project. Studio works primarily as my personal workspace, open access will be available on selected days.
I will be present on the day to induct and answer any questions but you will be working independently, with prior knowledge of the chosen process and / or you have previously attended one of my workshops and feel confident working by yourself (see workshops section if you need to learn first) . There will be guides available on how to use the equipment and I will be there to induct you at the start.
There is private garden access for large prints with sunlight & daylight photoshoots.
You can choose from the following techniques:
WET collodion
6h access to the studio space.
All necessary materials & equipment for up to 5 plates.
Continuous fluorescent studio lighting kit.
Daylight garden access (11-3 pm is recommended for good exposures, subject to rain!)
-
– Svedovsky camera in plate sizes: 8x10 inch, 5x7 inch, 18x24cm
* You can use a variety of plate thickness from thin tin to 4 mm glass. Currently available are 4mm black backed glass, 3mm clear glass in sizes 8x10 inch, 18x24 cm, 5x7 inch and 5x7 inch black tin.
I also have a limited number of red coloured glasses for experiments.
– Intrepid Camera 8x10 inch (18x24 cm plate size)
* Due to nature of the process bringing your own materials/mixing it with mine is not recommended. However you can bring your own complete set of materials if you need. Please mention it when booking.
You will need to allow time to wash your plates fully and varnish them on the day therefore I recommend a full day for this process.
Overtime: Each extra hour costs £50.* This is an advanced technique so you need to have prior experience to book this session. Need to learn it first? You can book into a workshop here
salt paper / van dyke / albumen

Printing frame. Due to the cost of silver I recommend up to 8x10 size here.
Materials for up to three 8x10 prints are provided.
* I do not store liquid albumen (due to its horrendous smell!). If you use the traditional gloss process you may need to age it & bring your own / pre coat the sheets. Unlike glossy albumen printing where you need to mix up your albumen and allow it to ripen for a week, matt albumen can be mixed and used the same day. I have powder albumen and starch available, you can bring your own egg whites if you like. Bear in mind coating prints with albumen is a lengthy process and they need to dry before being ready to be sensitized.
* Overtime: Each extra hour costs £30.
